TAODA..

Had a storybook Challenge again this year!!! My doll was my own interpretaion of
Susan Pearson's "Grimericks" Ghoul and Goblin love. I went for a cuter ghoul and green ( what else could he be?) goblin than the scarier ones of Gris Grimly...
and I called mine "Love At First Sight".

It was on display at the Houston International Quilt Show that just passed.
Joyce Patterson took this picture,from the show and I was so excited about
going after speaking with her a few days prior, but it was not to be...



I was unfortunately, not able to go, I was in charge of caring for my sweet grandies while their mama was nursing a flu. None of the grandies came down with the bug, that is except for all of us adults ....

I will be doing a small Christmas show with the group, this Nov. 21st at Holly Hall, here in Houston, my Kris Kringle was used for the invitaions, isn't that grand?
So I've been busy making dolls for the show or at least trying to do as many as I can...

Cover Girl....

A while back I told y'all that I had sent a doll to Cloth Paper Scissors and they said they were interested in her? Well looky looky ....



Isn't it WONDERFUL???!!!
I was speechless..but only for a nano second, then I emailed some of my friends and family. My run of bad luck is just a distant memory.....:)

I had to show you what a sweet thing my dh did, he came home with this beautiful bouquet of flowers for me , to celebrate my doll being on the cover of the magazine!!!He also brought me some crullers along with other yummy sweets
that I really didn't need but LOVED ... notice the past tense?!!!!:)

What would you do......

What could you do? When a couple of cute little boys turn two?
Welllllll....I would throw a FANTABULOUS, FANTASTICAL,BIG BIRTHDAY BASH, if I had lots and lots of free cash... I would order 3 cakes, cause I DO NOT bake, I'd fill up some jars with gumdrops and gumball and steak?...No No NO!!!A Ginormous big cake with the fish in a bowl and thing one and thing two, I think that should do, don't you?!!!!




But I'd have cookies and sweet drinks and candies GALORE and maybe some more!!!








Next a gigantical pool, filled with big colored balls in red and yellow and blue!!!
And still so much left we could do!!!?




Even a big blow up place to bump in and jump in at once, down and up ,up and down,
till the train came around.


It would be scarey with just me and you, but mommy and daddy would ride with us too!!!





And when that was done, we'd filled up our bellies with YUMMY GOOD cake, we'll open the presents and play a bit more!! Till your mommy and daddy say "Time to go home , this way to the door !!"















So we'll collect all our stuff, with goodies in hand, as we head out the door to our car... we'll all turn to say "We will never forget, all the fun that we had at the best birthday party by far!!"....





My Adorable twin grandies celebrated their 2nd birthday with a Dr. Seuss themed party
that their mom, my crafty and talented daughter, thought up and created ALL by her lonesome!!!!I was so proud and very in awe of her!!! Here she is with Jason her husband.

The witching hour....

is nigh!!!! This is one of my new doll busts for SpookyTimeJingles 13th update,she is #3 in my "Little Witches " series.


The weather is cold and wet outside, everyone's wearing long sleeves and light sweaters at 60 degrees, Autumn is in the air!! It almost feels as if Halloween is just around the corner too and it really is? Too bad we can't have more of this cool stuff...
This one is called " Bleeding Heart "

Head ,Fingers...

nose and toes....Getting my updates ready and wanted to show a new baby vampire that I'm almost finished with





These are the only wips I have of her, she's made of Apoxie Sculpt, I'm still not too sure of that medium. I like/need a lot of time when to do "do overs" and this stuff doesn't really give me that. Linda " The Gourd Queen" uses it all the time and I really don't know how she does it, so I figured I'd start small. I did use it another time for these two below and again the time constraints always throw me off!!

Onward and Upward....

This is so much more pleasing to the eye, dontcha think?









I've been avoiding the blogging stuff due to being so busy and my ankle is healing very nicely I might add. I got real mobile with my mom's rolling walker, I'm sure I looked like that bulldog on the skate board in the floor commercials, cause it was easier to put my busted leg on the seat and just roll....
Anywho, I can walk so much better and Josie, guess what NO unsightly BUMP!!!!YAY

Open letter to the universe....

Dear Universe,remember the conversation we had the other night? The one where I said
" I'm ready for whatever you have to give me?" UH ,can I rephrase that, because
I meant the "GOOD STUFF"....
I feel like I'm walking around with a bit of a dark cloud,I don't mean to harp on
this issue because for the most part I'm a lucky girl!!!!
So why am I feeling this way you ask?
Well for starters I came down with a staph infection that had to be excised in the doctors office, ( FUN STUFF ) then packed every night at home ( MORE FUN STUFF)#1
My computer crashed, #2
I have had a bad earache for the last 4 days#3
And the lastest just happened today #4
See the lovely little egg growing from my ankle?



I was getting ready to go see my mom,when low and behold I stepped wrong and fell.I remembered hearing a loud cracking sound as my ankle twisted underneath the weight of my body... I was more in shock than in pain,as I sat there in a bit of a daze.
I was able to get up with some help, so I thought hey I'm ok, afterall I am a lucky girl!!!?
So I'm in the car for the hr drive to mom's home and I'm having discomfort, I look down and see this bump,awww S**T!! I thought bad luck was supposed to come in 3's?? So who's the wise guy who changed the d*** rules and why wasn't I told about it, HUH!!....?

Now I can get back to nursing this earache as I hum "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all"!! I really shouldn't complain but lately it just seems like one of those " when it rains it pours " kinda times, yeah,yeah I know, cry me a river....

I had to redo the fat legs because I tried to use the last of my " sculpt it" clay and it behaved badly , so off with his legs, I added thinner shapelier ones.
I like them better.

What a fine mess...

I've gotten myself into!!!! My computer finally crashed and I don't think there is anyway to bring it back to working order, so I'm using my laptop to get the basics
done. It seems like if it's not one thing it's another lately...I'm not sure if I'll be able to upload my SpookyTimeJingles dolls in time for the Sept. update.

I have to share!!!!!

One of my most favorite customers sent me this email after seeing my " Red " , Dana was the one who inspired /challenged me to create her. She's good for what ails ya and then some!!! Just look at what she said:


Now, let me tell you I just almost gave my poor Marty a heart attack, screaming for him to come quick. I was looking on your site whilst at the computer with email and such. (It's so wonderful to have had only one case today and a little down time!)
Any way, you know what I saw, you little stinker. I was practically having to do the old paper bag trick to stop my hyper ventilating and Marty was standing over me going "What!? What!?" while all I could do was point at the monitor with a big stupid grin before I was finally able to squeak out, "That's my Red!!!!!" (She is my Red, isn't she?!?!) Dibs, dibs, dibs, dibs, dibs!!!!! Simply Red - PERFECT!

FLORA!! I love her already. She's beautiful even in her naked clayness. That lip between her teeth and the cut of her eyes gave me goosebumps! I already see her voluptuous, seductive wickedness. Rufus C. (the C stands for Canis of course) Lupus will definitely howl for the spells she will put him under and enjoy every wavering note! (I have to admit he and I have been doing a happy dance around the library).

BRAVO! BRAVO! I'm on my feet, this is a standing ovation! You my friend leave me speechless, and believe me, ask anybody who knows me, it's not an easy feat. I am awstruck by the talent within your creative mind and the hands with the ability to make your visions live right before the eyes of your wondering audience. You my dear must have one of the original Greek muses occupying your soul. It is my pleasure and my eternal delight to have had theprovidence to meet you and the honor to own some of your creations. Pick up your roses, Flora, they have showered your stage!

Oh you shouldn't have!!!


A while back my fingers were quicker than my brain....anywho I was visiting with the lovely Ms. Marie Patterson of " Marie Patterson Studio " and saw what I thought was a free giveaway, you know the ones where " If you are one of the first to comment...", well it wasn't one of those...
But I did get a great gift, a unique " Spinner " ornie that has 2 sides, that Marie is so clever!!!
This was started waaaaay back in April on Michelle Rae Schafer's blog Studio at Crow Haven Farm. Make sure you check out her fantastic blog

They call me Red

Simply Red....







I was challenged to make this doll by one of my customers, I liked the idea she came up with so I thought why not, I doubt I'll be finished anytime soon but I thought y'all might like to see what I've done so far...

Home again, home again.....

Jiggity jig!!! Well I didn't go to market but I did go on vacation then I had to rest up from my vacation???? Seriously I got a nasty bug and am on antibiotics, today is the only day that I actually felt human again...
I had so enjoyed my trip to the Smokey Mountain area of North Carolina, I hope I got that right? The days were cool and nights glorious!!! I couldn't belive it was August and I was wearing a light sweater!!!

One view of the breathtaking scenery as we drove up a mountainside...yeah I was dizzy the whole time!!!


What is that crude saying I was so scared " You couldn't get a pin up my be....?"
That's exactly how I felt here and my dh Bill ( with his "ZZ TOP" facial hair)
held on to me very tightly, I made sure!!!



We saw this waterfall as we drove on said mountainside and went in for a closer look..



My dh and 14 yr old son who LOVES these kind of trips, we went diamond hunting in Arkansas last year, he planned this trip out with a little help from his dad.
No we didn't find any diamonds...



This waterfall was a tourist attraction and had rails and a trail

I almost didn't want to come home but in the end I was ready to get back home, then I got sick....
One of the things we did was hunt for gems we found several stones from citrine to sapphires to rubies and emeralds.Here is some information about the area we were vacationing in..http://pakasdollmaker.com/gemmining.html.
I'm told that this little gem is a natural ruby, it looks like a rock to me and I
almost threw it away, we found it in "Mason Mines" still not so sure...

we found a lot of pretty sapphires and emeralds here and the water was ice cold!!!

On the last leg of our trip, we are at " Myrtle Beach " finally and just too
darn hot for me!!! We saw all sorts of tanned people, some looked like they
had been over baked, possible downright burned and leathery raisins to boot UGH!!!!
Definitely not my kinda vacation, we met the nicest folk there too though.



My son with his metal detector, he is so funny he thought he was going to find treasures for sure!!!

The last night before heading home we found this quaint little area waaaaaaaayyy down
the road and a wonderful little hole in the wall with great food.

HCCC......

The Houston Center for Contemporary Crafts was where I spent the better part of Sat. with the ladies of TAODA, my " Cone Dolls " were submitted and accepted as an art project for children and adults to make!!! Even some of the staff of the museum and our group, joined in to made their own cones!!!
Some of the crafter's faces in the pictures below have been altered for the sake of privacy, but one of the women allowed me to photograph her and her creation. All these pic's are of the first group of people that came by.



Here are 3 of TAODA members Karen Jewelon the left, Annie Foley at the back, in white, and Janet Bodin our new President on the far right.



Everyone is concentrating on their creations!!!


Doesn't she have a wonderful smile, the leopard print looked pretty good, dontcha think,she said her mom was an artist too!!
